St Mary’s Holiday Club: Can You Help?

We are delighted to announce that St Mary’s Holiday Club will be running this year from Monday 5th – Friday 9th August.  With over 50 children likely to attend, we are in need of many new volunteers to make this happen – please could you consider whether there is any way you could help for some or all of this week?

Holiday Club is open to primary school age children from Reception to year 6.  It is a fun-packed activity week – each day, children rotate in their groups between sports and outdoor games, the craft tent, thinking sessions and some fun one-off activities.  Children bring their own packed lunches, drinks and snacks are provided.

We need help in all sorts of different areas during the week – might you be able to help with:

  • Serving refreshments during breaks
  • Being a ’team leader’ guiding a group of 6-8 children between their various activities
  • Being an extra pair of hands in the craft tent
  • Helping with outdoor games and activities
  • Assisting with administration of registrations, checking children in and out as they arrive and leave each day

DBS checks will be required.

We are also in need of Young Leaders (year 7 and above) to take responsibility for a group – motivating and guiding them through the activities and making sure the children have as much fun as possible.  Do you know of anyone who would enjoy this role?

Please do put the dates in your diary and get in touch with Ailsa if you might be able to help.  Even if you can’t make the whole week, just two or three days would still be a huge help.

We hope you can join us for this fun-filled and very important week in St Mary’s calendar!

Lent Challenge: Take Something Up (Don’t give something up!)

Here at St Mary’s we are excited about all the things we have planned this year, and we want to invite everyone in the village to take part in our Lent challenge beginning in February – Take Something Up, (Don’t Give Something Up!)

On Saturday 10th February from 2pm to 4pm we will be having a Talent Fair to showcase some of the amazing skills across our church community with the opportunity for you to have a go through Lent and learn something new too.

How do you like the idea of:

  • Challenge #1 Learn Bellringing
  • Challenge #2 Learn Appliqué
  • Challenge #3 Mowing & Gardening in the Churchyard
  • Challenge #4 Sing with the Choir
  • Challenge #5 Learn to Help at a Service
  • Challenge #6 Become a Children’s Helper
  • Challenge #7 Learn Flower Arranging
  • Challenge #8 Become a Church Cleaner
  • Challenge #9 Learn to Read the Bible in Church

We hope there will be something for all ages! Why not join us and instead of giving something up for Lent, take something up instead?

An Evening with the Friends of St Mary’s: Friday 26th January, 7.30pm

We’d like to invite you to an evening with the Friends of St Mary’s on Friday 26th January at 7.30pm.

The Friends help fund the upkeep of Redbourn’s only Grade 1 listed building, St Mary’s Church. In the past they’ve held balls, barn dances and are key to Redbourn Classics.

The funds are only for the building and grounds – not what happens inside. If the building and churchyard are important to you, then we would love you to come along and hear how you could help support this important charity.

We recently had leak in the roof, and without the Friends of St Mary’s this would bring us even more worry. So, thank you to the Friends of St Mary’s and we hope some of you might be interested in joining – if only to put on some great social occasions for the village!
