St Mary’s Patronal Festival: Sunday 11th September

On Sunday 11th September we mark the annual Patronal Festival (St Mary’s ‘birthday celebration’, if you like), with a single service at 11.00am.

The service will honour our patron saint, the Blessed Virgin Mary,  and also offer prayers and time for reflection on the loss and gratitude for the life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Everyone is most welcome to attend and to stay for a cup of tea or coffee after the service.

We’re grateful to Revd Diane Clark, Chaplain at St Albans High School for Girls for leading this special service.

Due to the weather forecast, this service will be held inside the church. There will be no 8.00am service that day.

Please note that the concert by Symphonia Academica that was due to take place at 3.00pm has been postponed.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come along, as you are to all other days, services and events at St Mary’s.

Jubilee Service to be held inside church

Due to the weather forecast for tomorrow (Sunday) morning, the 9.30am service will be held inside the church.

This will be a very special and memorable day for us and our village as we celebrate the 70-year reign of our monarch.

We begin at St Mary’s with our services at 8am and 9.30am during which special prayers for the Queen will be offered. We then head up to the north part of the Common for the Big Jubilee Picnic from 11 am onwards.

Come in crowns and regal attire or in 1950s dress – the choice is yours – and set up your picnic spot on the grass with friends and family. The Big Picnic is STILL ON despite the weather forecast – bring your waterproofs, umbrellas, and gazebos/pop up shelters (please keep these to the outer edges of the Common).

There will be a special parade at noon from Cumberland House along the avenue with prizes for the best costumes. Then to accompany your own picnic lunch we enjoy live music, a pop-up bar and café van for drinks, fairground rides and family games, cream teas and a community sing-along.

Admission is free so bring you family and friends for what will be a brilliant day of celebrations, entertainment and fun.
