Volunteering Day at Gaddesden Place RDA Stables

A team of volunteers from St Mary’s spent a scorching day at Gaddesden Place Riding for the Disabled stables on Thursday, as a ‘Volunteering Day’ in support of our Charity of the Year.

Tasks including cleaning and disinfecting stables, repainting a shed, scrubbing, clearing, quite literally ‘scraping a barrel’ which prepares new riders for sitting on a saddle, and painting horseshoes used in sensory sessions.

A Gaddesden RDA Trustee wrote “What an amazing team of volunteers – it was a great demonstration of teamwork and I’m staggered that everything on the list was ticked off.  Gaddesden RDA really appreciate all the work that was done today and feel very fortunate to have your ongoing support”.

Ordination of New Curate: Tim Vickers

On Sunday 3 July a coachload from St Mary’s went to St Albans for the ordination of their new Curate, Tim Vickers.

In front of a packed congregation of around 2000 worshippers, Tim was ordained by the Bishop of St Albans in a moving and uplifting service to formally begin his time of ministry amongst us for the next three years.

There was an added joy to the celebrations as Mary Fisher was also ordained, who has been a valued part of our congregation until starting her training for ministry in Oxford.

Both Tim and Mary will return to the Cathedral in 12 months time to be ordained as priests, no doubt with similarly joyful celebrations and rejoicing.
