Pop Up Classics: Sunday 13th November, 3pm

We are delighted that our friends from Symphonia Academica will be joining us for a concert on Sunday 13 November at 3.00pm.

They will be joined by clainettist Nicholas Carpenter for a performance of the beautiful clarinet  quintet by Brahms and the delightfully pastoral set of Bagatelles by Gerald Finzi.

Nick became the principal clarinet of the BBC Concert Orchestra just before the pandemic. Last year he gave a stunning performance of Weber’s second clarinet concerto with BBCCO, broadcast on BBC Radio3.

The concert will last about an hour without an interval.

Admission is free with retiring collection. To reserve your place please phone Peter on 01582 882159 or email bussereau@icloud.com.

Informal Vacancy Meeting: Monday 12th September, 7.30pm

We kick-off the process of appointing a vicar with this intriguingly titled meeting, on 12th September at 7:30pm.

The meeting will be chaired by the Archdeacon of St Albans, Ven Jane Mainwaring, and is one of the key ways that all members of the congregation can have a say in the appointment process.

Archdeacon Jane will also set out key steps in the process, and give some idea of timing.

Please do come along to this very important meeting in the life of St Marys.

St Mary’s Patronal Festival: Sunday 11th September

On Sunday 11th September we mark the annual Patronal Festival (St Mary’s ‘birthday celebration’, if you like), with a single service at 11.00am.

The service will honour our patron saint, the Blessed Virgin Mary,  and also offer prayers and time for reflection on the loss and gratitude for the life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Everyone is most welcome to attend and to stay for a cup of tea or coffee after the service.

We’re grateful to Revd Diane Clark, Chaplain at St Albans High School for Girls for leading this special service.

Due to the weather forecast, this service will be held inside the church. There will be no 8.00am service that day.

Please note that the concert by Symphonia Academica that was due to take place at 3.00pm has been postponed.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come along, as you are to all other days, services and events at St Mary’s.
