A new pilgrimage guide leaflet has been produced by St Albans Cathedral for the St Amphibalus Way – a 5.5 mile walking pilgrimage from St Mary’s Church Redbourn to St Albans Cathedral.
Following the River Ver, this beautiful route traces Saint Amphibalus’ journey from his resting place back to the shrine built in his honour.
The leaflet includes detailed instructions to follow the route, along with the story of St Alban and St Amphibalus and historical information about places you pass along the way.
You can also download a GPX version of the route which works on your smartphone’s Map app – find this on the website of the British Pilgrimage Trust.

When you have finished your journey, don’t forget to ask for your Alban stamp at the Welcome desk in the Cathedral. Pilgrim passports can be bought in the Cathedral shop.
We are delighted and very excited to announce that after many hundreds of hours of painstaking, skilled work by Barbara Corbett and the textile group, the new set of green altar frontals is finished and they have been put on the three altars at St Mary’s.
Having finished the Easter season we have entered what is known as Ordinary Time when our liturgical colour becomes green, this gives us the perfect opportunity to put them on to the altars for the first time.
Thank you so much to the amazing team who have worked over several years to make these – we are immensely grateful and in awe of your skills.
The materials for the frontals were given by Lucy and Anthony Davis as a leaving gift (yes, that is how long the have taken to craft) and we so we record our heartfelt thanks to them for their generosity also..
