We are looking for a Musical Outreach Director at St Mary’s, Redbourn

St Mary’s Church in Redbourn, near St Albans, is seeking a creative musician for the new role of Musical Outreach Director. This exciting role will rejuvenate and grow our musical provision within church and tap into the wealth of musical talent in this large village. The success of our 36-hour music marathon last year gives us the confidence to believe there is huge potential here.

The role is initially for 12 hours a week, with 6 weeks paid holidays (to be taken outside of term time) with a salary starting at £14,000 but expected to increase as the role grows. The nature of the role means that you will have a flexible working pattern throughout the week, with a particular commitment to rehearsals and Sundays.

  • We are seeking someone who can:
  • Rejuvenate our Junior Choir within the RSCM Voice for Life framework,
  • Begin a new village choir singing sacred and secular music, which is open to all. The aim would be to sing for both Choral Evensong and concerts, blending with our existing church choir.
  • In time, look at gathering instrumentalists from across the village for worship and concerts.
  • We are looking for a confident self-starter who has:
  • Great interpersonal skills, with all ages and can build relationships, particularly with schools and families.
  • Experience with choirs and an understanding of the RSCM Voice for life Programme.
  • The ability to reach across our community and draw people together to make music, both sacred and secular.
  • Keyboard skills are helpful, but we are not looking for an organist (we have three in our congregation).
  • Sympathy with the Christian faith and an appreciation of liturgy.

Above all you will communicate your enthusiasm for music within and beyond worship to experienced and inexperienced musicians alike.
